How To Prepare For a Frenectomy

Pre-op:

Infants (up to 18 months): We encourage all infants to meet with an IBCLC for a functional assessment for breast or bottle feeding prior to evaluation with Dr. Kim. Your appointment will include a history intake, feed & weight, latch & position help, oral evaluation, and you will be given exercises to prepare your baby for a release if deemed necessary.  If you already have an IBCLC, please fax all records to our office in preparation for your evaluation with Dr. Kim.

*All infants must have Vitamin K shot. Find resource here for vit K on the resource page.

Toddlers & Older Children: Your initial exam will be with Dr. Kim where she will evaluate tongue function, oral anatomy, as well as sleep, feeding, and speech issues. In this age group, procedures are not generally performed on the same day as evaluation. Toddlers & older children often need muscular re-education due to compensating oral function and therefore an Oral Motor Therapist may be recommended for your child to work with prior to release and often times after release for optimal resolution of symptoms. We offer this service in-house for your convenience and are also happy to work with the provider of your choice. If you have already been in therapy with your child, please fax over records to the office prior to your appointment.

Also please submit an intake form by clicking here or print it and bring it to your appointment
